SEO: A website is scraping content from my page. It is being indexed before mine but I posted it first.?
If they are scraping the content from my website but being indexed first. I believe they are being indexed because they are more frequently updated by several RSS feeds of data scraped from other pages and using something like Only Wire to submit to and ping 100′s of websites.
What wordpress plugin are they most likely using to do this?
What should I do about it? I have contacted the webmaster and no reply…
Will I get slapped by Google because it looks like I am taking their content.
Am I just being crazy?
They will be getting ranked in the search results first because they have more links to the page / a better optimised site than you have for the same content.
You will not get slapped by google. However google will only display content once in a search results so if their page is viewed as more important than yours; And you both have the same content then their page will be displayed in the search results and your page will not appear. The rest of the site will be unafffected.
In terms of ranking only thing you can do is improve your optimisation and build more links than they do. Try using the free wordpress SEO optimisation plugin found at the Undergroundtraininglab.com to optimise the blog and make it more SEO friendly.
If you mean by indexing that it is getting picked up by google faster than your content it is probable because they have a XML site map that is doing a better job than your site. The plugin I suggest should solve this as well.
Try using onlywire yourself to negate their impact – it is free if you put the logo somewhere
In terms of your feed you could change your feed so that it automatically carries a copyright message and a link back to your website or adjust the content so that only a summary is sent out by the RSS feed. While I know you can do this I can’t tell you how as it is beyond my skills – although if you search you may well find a plugin to do this.
