Before we start with the methods for off-page SEO, we need to be clear about the term “Backlinks”.
Backlinks
This is also known as link-building, link popularity, and getting links from other websites. There are actually several types of ways you can use to build your back links. Google and other search engines, place a heavy importance on the number and quality of other links that are pointing back to your site or pages. Hence the more quality backlinks you have for your sites, the chances of achieving higher search result ranking are higher.
To build up on link popularity factor, you will need to increase the number of websites that link to your sites. This is sometimes very hard.
The methods you can use to gain in back links are as follows:
-Buy one-way back links – You can buy links to your sites from link brokers or link sellers that aggregate people wanting to sell links on their sites. You will need to pay more for sites with higher PR to link back to your sites.
-Link exchange and reciprocals – You can exchange links on your site for others to link back to your sites. This is known as link exchange or reciprocal links. Take care not to overdo this aspect. A few reciprocal links on a separate resources or links page is fine, while adhering to Google’s guidelines (which is no more than 100 links per page). You should be careful about installing third party link exchange scripts on your site that generate a lot of spammy links automatically.
-Quality themed content that gets others to link to you – If you have good quality themed content on your sites that is relevant to your niche, then other sites in the same niche or content area may link to your site without any effort on your part.
The backlinks can be of two types – do follow and no follow. Do follow link means the anchor tag in the site or page does not include the “rel=nofollow” attribute. This tag is used for search engines to prevent crawling beyond the page and minimize the effects of passing pagerank from the linking site to the linked site. No follow links have this attribute “rel=nofollow” in the anchor tag.
